Ankara comments on news of readiness to launch a new military operation in northern Syria

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that his country will never allow any entity to appear in the area opposite its borders in northern Syria.

During his participation in the army’s military maneuvers in central Turkey, Akar added that his country’s goal is to ensure the security of its borders and people only, and it has no other goals.

The Turkish minister said, “There are those who dreamed of establishing a terrorist corridor in northern Syria, but we destroyed this corridor on the heads of these terrorists and did not allow them to establish it, and we will not allow any entity to appear in the area opposite our borders, and everyone should be well aware of this.”

Akar indicated that Turkey, through its military operations, succeeded in thwarting the establishment of a terrorist corridor in northern Syria (Anatolia).

In response to a question about a possible operation in Syria and talks with Russia and the United States on Syria, Cavusoglu said that the idea of ​​holding a meeting with the United States and countries that share the same ideas as Ankara on Syria, or a meeting of the International Syria Support Group, was reached, and we are working on it, Without giving any additional details.

Cavusoglu added that there is a need for such a meeting, and he sent a message to both Russia and Iran, the main supporters of the Syrian regime, and said, “You have seen that a military solution is not possible, explain that to the Syrian regime.”

He explained that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the situation in Syria and the failure to fulfill the commitments to withdraw terrorists from the area agreed upon with Washington and Moscow after Operation Peace Spring, during his meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, and he will address it in his upcoming meeting with US President Joe Biden.

In a related context, Al-Jazeera correspondent said that a child was killed and civilians were injured in the air and artillery shelling of the Syrian regime forces on the Termanin area in Idlib countryside. It also resulted in the destruction of a number of civilian homes.

The regime forces have been targeting cities and towns in Idlib countryside, in a continuous escalation for months on the area covered by the ceasefire signed between Turkey and Russia.
