New lucrative field of activity for resellers: the modern workplace is becoming a hotspot for the channel
Admittedly, the software configuration of workstations was not considered to be particularly exciting and exciting for a long time. Established communication and collaboration tools such as e-mail, calendar and document management were only partially and hesitantly supplemented by new tools such as Messenger. It wasn’t particularly dynamic or challenging. But that has changed radically.
After long-guarded bastions such as the presence work under supervision on site were razed under the pressure of the viral events almost overnight, new networked workplace concepts have become an urgent task and an essential factor for the success and further development of companies. New forms and formats of communication such as chat, video conferencing and social media have become indispensable in physical and virtual offices, not only because of the home office boom. The recently inflamed discussions about reducing home office times will not change that.
However, simply adding new software is not enough. The extended tool set must map the changed workflows, meet the internal (compliance) and external (GDPR) security requirements and be so intuitive to use that the effort for the administrators and the training requirements for the employees remain manageable. This means new challenges for software providers.
For example, a machine learning virtual assistant integrated into the software can reduce the need for training. The better the individual partial solutions are integrated, the lower it is. Common, stringent interfaces, the simple interoperability of the function modules and the seamless exchange of data between them are the specifications for the desired efficiency in the workplace – wherever it may be.
The sudden increase in the need for suitable communication and collaboration tools has, as the intimate connection between supply and demand wants, led to a flood of offers that have to be carefully evaluated and combined from the user’s point of view. However, the overview and detailed know-how required for this are often insufficiently developed, because the market is still heavily segmented and characterized by specialists who are market leaders in their respective segments, but who only cover a small part of the entire communication needs . This is not satisfactory for administrators or users, or for the controlling and management level. This means that improvements in efficiency can only be achieved to a limited extent.
For IT service providers, the trio of stationary office and home office workplaces plus mobile application scenarios and their interlinking has advanced to an attractive field of activity – in terms of its potential, perhaps comparable to the last few months before the GDPR deadline. With the difference that there is no expiration date for workplace modernization. The growing importance of work organization means that innovation impulses can be expected on the part of software providers, from which system houses and integrators develop meaningful and practicable solutions for their customers.
When selecting suitable technology and solution partners, the functional diversity of the applications, the modular structure of the software stack, the integration of the modules on a common technology platform and the consistent use of open source are the decisive criteria for getting tougher to be able to position successfully in the competitive environment that has become.
