How to earn $10,000 a month online?.. Inspirational tips from a young entrepreneur

Lomas is a freelance health and fitness writer with a master’s degree in nutrition and a certified fitness trainer. Previously, she was an advisor to the Fortune 500 company.

Lomas said, in her interview with Location CNBC’s Make it, “In 2017, I left my full-time consulting job at a Fortune 500 company, where my annual salary was about $40,000, and I was 23, and I graduated from College straight away, I didn’t have a backup plan, but I knew I wasn’t happy working from 9am to 5pm in the corporate world and I needed a change.”

“Fortunately, I had saved enough money to spare some time to figure out how I could turn my passion for health, fitness and writing into a profitable career. I went back to school for my master’s degree in nutrition and got my personal trainer certification.”

“A year later, I noticed that the world of Instagram fitness writers was thriving. I found it exciting, so I created an Instagram account and posted fitness-related photos, along with my diet and exercise tips in the captions.” After 6 months, my followers had grown to 10,000.

One day, officials from a famous boxing gym called me and asked if I could write a few 500-word blog posts for their website, about how boxers can improve their performance. The pay was $25 per post.

According to Lomas, she ended up enjoying the job, so she decided to advertise her services as a health and fitness writer on freelance platforms.

Lomas who has been working from home, in a few weeks, succeeded, being the target of fitness websites, gyms, athletes and health brands to reach out to her for hiring.

It expanded its service selling fitness plans. By the end of 2019, I went from earning nearly $100 a month to over $10,000 a month.

Lomas noted that the decision to quit her job to become a full-time freelance writer was one of the best decisions she had ever made.

Based on her previous experience, Lomas gave her followers a set of tips in the field of self-employment, as follows:

What distinguishes me from my competitors is the constant presence on Instagram and therefore the increase in the number of followers. I have demonstrated the effectiveness of my work by sharing reach and engagement metrics on my social media platforms.

And even though I’ve been receiving more clients each month, I put time, thought, and attention into each project. I have ensured that my writing matches the voice, style and tone of each client.

Introduce yourself in a video

In an explainer video, you can talk about your products and services or topics and issues related to your industry. This also gives you a chance to explain confusing topics that can be difficult to understand.

You don’t need to use a video editor, but it’s important to make sure that:

  • Your video is short, informative and straightforward.
  • sound quality.
  • The lighting is clear (daylight is preferred).
  • The background is relevant and/or not distracting, you are talking about your services, background and qualifications.

Finally, don’t be afraid to show some humor in your personality. This is a great way to help potential clients connect and feel comfortable working with you.

Low price at the beginning

If you are new and charging high but don’t have customer reviews, don’t expect to get a lot of orders for your service or product.

“Initially your prices should be much lower than what other people with the same amount of experience are asking,” Lomas emphasized.

But my goal at the time wasn’t to make a lot of money quickly. Instead, I wanted to attract new customers through better prices. And soon more customers lead to more customer reviews, which is critical to maintaining a good reputation.

Once I got a decent amount of 5-star reviews and returning clients, I increased my prices by about 50%, depending on the client’s demand and scope of work.

Keep getting certified

If you have the skills, but don’t have a college degree or related work experience, you can get free degrees on platforms like Khan Academy, Coursera, and EdX, some of which offer Courses linked to prestigious universities, including Harvard, Yale, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California at Berkeley.

Always be professional and respectful

Your reputation does not depend solely on the number of good reviews you have or on metrics for your success rate. The way you interact with customers is also important.

“I’ve met CEOs of publicly listed companies, professional athletes, celebrities and global chief marketing officers. These people do not tolerate rudeness or unreliability,” Lomas explained.

Here are the rules of being professional and attracting returning customers:

  • There are no misspellings or bad grammar in the emails.
  • Reply to messages in a timely manner.
  • Lack of promises and excessive fulfillment.
  • If things become chaotic or confusing, suggest a phone call.
  • Never close a project until the customer is 100% satisfied.

But above all, respect yourself, and if someone has been abusive from the start, this is probably a sign that you shouldn’t work with them.
