Afghanistan.. Taliban killed and wounded in separate explosions in Jalalabad city
An Afghan government security source told Al Jazeera that 8 Taliban militants were killed and 17 others wounded in separate explosions that took place today, Sunday, in the city of Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan.
At least 3 civilians were killed in a double bombing in the city of Jalalabad, and Anadolu Agency quoted local officials as saying that two successive bombings targeted the second district in the center of Jalalabad.
For its part, the police said that two members of the Taliban security forces were wounded after a double explosion, followed by gunfire in the city.
State Police Chief Mawlawi Sheikh Nada Muhammad said that the first explosion targeted a vehicle belonging to the security forces in the Fourth Police Department, and resulted in two injuries, while the second explosion did not result in injuries.
Eyewitnesses said that they heard the sound of weapons after the explosions, and they spoke of a shooting clash between Taliban forces and the attackers after the two explosions, and no party immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
