But Trent Alexander-Arnold equalized for the visitors with a superb free kick in the 41st minute.
Spaniard Pablo Fornals restored the lead to the hosts in the 67th minute with a ground shot from inside the penalty area, after a through pass from Jarrod Bowen.
Kurt Zouma made it 3-1 for West Ham with a header from a corner kick in the 74th minute.
Substitute Divock Origi reduced the difference for Liverpool with a direct shot from inside the penalty area 7 minutes before the end.
West Ham advanced to third place with 23 points, behind second-placed Manchester City, while Liverpool fell to fourth place with 22 points.
