Launching the first edition of the Saudi Women’s Football League
The Saudi Football Association announced the launch of the first edition of the Saudi Women’s Football League, in a step that comes within the time plan developed by the Federation within the framework of the women’s football support program since 2017.
The league, which starts on November 22, will be held in two phases: the first phase is the regional league with the participation of 16 teams, and its matches will be held in 3 cities (Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam) with the participation of 6 teams from each region (except for Dammam 4 teams). To play in a two-round league system, provided that the top three places in Riyadh and Jeddah and the first and second places in Dammam qualify for the Kingdom Final Championship (the second stage) to be held early next year in Jeddah at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium with a knockout system. One match.
The head of the Saudi Football Federation, Yasser Al-Mishal, indicated that “this announcement is an important moment in the march of the federation,” and considered that the launch of the first official league in the Kingdom was one of the federation’s goals when creating a special department for women’s football.
Al-Mishal explained that the preparation of all the rules and regulations for the league had been completed, stressing the union’s keenness to implement and abide by them due to the importance of this edition in the path of Saudi women’s football, and wished success to all teams participating in the tournament.
