3G verification: How to control 3G rules in operation
The Corona traffic light is red. The intensive care units (ITS) of the hospitals are at the stop. This means that more and more employers are required to do so 3G scheme in the workplace to. This still only affects a few federal states, but if the incidence figures persist, it is only a matter of time before access to work is only possible everywhere in Germany with 3G certification.
Although severe penalties are threatened if the 3G rules are disregarded – in Bavaria Politicians have already announced that companies will be closed if they do not check the 3G certificates – many employers are still finding it difficult to implement the new regulation. The often heard excuse ‘we are not allowed to ask about the vaccination status of our employees’ is an argument that does not work and hardly protects against punishment during controls.
After all, in the context of the 3G regulation, the employer does not have to explicitly ask his employees about the vaccination status. All he has to do is ensure that his employees have one of the following 3G certificates:
Vaccination certificate (vaccinated)
negative test result (PCR-Test or documented rapid test) (tested)
Proof of surviving COVID infection (recovery)
Although the printed paper certificates (e.g. yellow vaccination card) also apply in this country, the easiest way to check the 3G rules is digital COVID certificates to use. This is available as a QR code for proof of vaccination and recovery status as well as for tests.
With these, a review of the 3G certificates should be carried out in just under 20 seconds – provided the employer and employee are team players. In addition, the whole thing can still be implemented in compliance with data protection regulations, because no personal data has to be saved to comply with the 3G regulation. We have how the COVID certificates work and why no personal data is transferred during the verification here described.
The digital verification of 3G certificates is free of charge, for example with the CovPass Check app. All that is needed is the appropriate app for Android or iOS as well as a smartphone are required. In order to prevent possible failures due to empty batteries, the smartphone should be operated with a plug-in power supply.
Equipped in this way, for example, the reception could check employees’ 3G records every morning when they enter the company. The employee simply shows the QR code of their open CovPass or Corona-Warn-App. This is then checked for validity by reception using a CovPass Check. Finally, the name on the certificate has to be compared briefly, for example with a works ID with photo, driver’s license or ID card, in order to discover fake certificates from a Frank Mustermann, etc.
A process in which no data is saved or transferred, because the data is not saved in the smartphone. And the verification of the electronic signature of the certificate takes place in the CovPass Check App offline with the help of a public key stored there. In this way, no data has to be exchanged with any server or stored in any lists – whether electronically or in paper form.
However, this pragmatic procedure for checking the 3G certificates quickly reaches its limits in larger companies or with multiple access options to the company. Siemens in Nuremberg therefore has, for example, how BR 24 reports, once all company IDs are blocked. Otherwise, it is said, the 3G regulation of the legislature could not have been implemented in a hurry. At the gate, the 3G certificates were then checked by the works security. For employees who only prove their corona status by means of a test, going to the plant security for the purpose of checking is initially part of the morning routine as long as the corona traffic light is red. After the check, employees with a recovery or vaccination certificate were unlocked again so that they can move around the site normally.
