Following the Jerusalem operation, the occupation carries out a campaign of arrests in the West Bank and talks about weapons, explosives and infrastructure for Hamas

On Monday, the Israeli government announced the arrest of more than 50 – whom it described – activists of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the West Bank, while Hebrew media confirmed the arrest of the wife of the Palestinian martyr Fadi Abu Shkhaydam upon her return from Jordan.

Ofir Gendelman, spokesman for the Israeli Prime Minister, said in a tweet on Twitter, “More than 50 activists affiliated with Hamas were arrested, and money, weapons and explosives that were preparing to manufacture 4 explosive belts were seized.”

He added that the Israeli General Security Service (Shin Bet) revealed “a large infrastructure belonging to Hamas in the West Bank, led by Saleh al-Arouri, the movement’s deputy head, and that it planned to carry out explosive operations inside the Green Line.”

Gendelman’s announcement came after a shooting attack in East Jerusalem on Sunday, which led to the killing of an Israeli and the wounding of 4 others, and the martyrdom of Sheikh Fadi Abu Shkhaydam, who Hamas said was one of its leaders in Jerusalem.

The arrest of Abu Shkheidam’s wife

Meanwhile, the official Israeli Kan channel confirmed the arrest of the wife of the martyr Abu Shkhaydam at the Allenby Bridge that connects the West Bank with Jordan, upon her return from visiting her mother, who was sick with cancer in Jordanian territory.

The channel said that the Shin Bet is interrogating the martyr’s wife, without further details. The Israeli security services had arrested a number of family members of the perpetrator of the Jerusalem operation, including his son, daughter and brother.

In turn, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that Abu Shkhedem’s wife traveled to Jordan 3 days ago to visit her mother, who suffers from a late health condition.

Governor of Jerusalem

In a related context, the official Palestinian news agency (WAFA) said that Israeli forces raided the home of the Governor of Jerusalem in the Palestinian Authority, Adnan Ghaith, on Monday.

According to the agency, special units of the Israeli police stormed Ghaith’s house and threw stun grenades inside it, and beat him, his sons and cousins, injuring a number of them, and smashed the contents of the house, and arrested 3 of his relatives.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the “brutal attack” by the Israeli police on Governor Ghaith and his family.
