Hundreds of deaths and tens of thousands of injuries in Corona .. a call to stop the football season in Germany

The German Football Association (DFL) on Wednesday rejected a call to suspend the season for several weeks after a sharp increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country.

The German League – which runs the first and second divisions – was responding to a call from “Helge Leonhardt”, president of the “Erzgeberg Oh” club, to stop the season until next December.

Leonhardt said football needed to set an example and put people’s safety first to reduce the risk of further injuries and reduce the burden on the German health system.

The association said in a statement that any future measures would follow the advice of the authorities.

And she continued, “It is agreed upon between all the 36 clubs (in the first and second divisions) since the beginning of the epidemic, that the behavior has always been based on the state’s instructions.”

Germany recorded about 67,000 new infections with the Corona virus and 335 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to nearly 100,000.
