Dozens killed in ferry fire in Bangladesh
Dozens of people were killed Friday morning when a crowded ferry was caught on fire while crossing a river in southern Bangladesh, police said.
The accident occurred early in the morning near the southern rural town of Jakakathi, 250 km south of the capital, Dhaka.
Local police chief Moinul Islam said that a three-storey ferry caught fire in the middle of the river.
The police said that the number of victims was likely to rise, as more than 50 people were taken to hospital, some of them in critical condition, and some passengers are still missing. The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
