Saudi Foreign Minister: Our hands are extended to Iran if it responds to the region’s security concerns

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan described the Iranian role as destabilizing the security and stability of the region and the world, stressing at the same time that hands are extended to Tehran.

“We discussed the destabilizing Iranian role for security and stability in the region and the world, and support for militias,” Faisal bin Farhan said during a press conference with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi in the capital, Amman.

He added that it was emphasized that efforts would be intensified to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and to rid the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction.

However, the Saudi minister added, “But we also affirmed that our hands, as Arabs, are extended to the brothers in Iran if they respond to addressing these Arab concerns related to the security and stability of the region.”

For his part, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi affirmed his country’s full support and standing by Saudi Arabia with regard to protecting Saudi lands from what he described as terrorist attacks.

About two weeks ago, Jordan announced, through its official agency, Petra, that it had hosted a security dialogue session between Saudi Arabia and Iran in the capital, Amman, that discussed a number of security and technical issues and the promotion of regional stability, without fuller details.

This session followed a series of rounds of direct dialogue between Riyadh and Tehran under Iraqi sponsorship, the first of which began in January 2016, about 6 years after the severing of diplomatic relations between them.
