A traffic accident in Jericho claims the lives of 8 Palestinians

Nablus- Eight Palestinian citizens died Thursday afternoon, after a terrible traffic accident occurred near the town of Fasayel in the Palestinian Jordan Valley, north of Jericho in the West Bank, and 3 others were seriously and moderately injured and taken to hospitals.

Palestinian police spokesman Colonel Louay Erzeigat said that the accident occurred between a private Palestinian vehicle carrying a number of workers and a truck (tank) for transporting liquid cement, which is also Palestinian.

In a statement, Irzeigat confirmed that the eight deceased, all from the town of Aqraba, south of the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank, were taken to Jericho Governmental Hospital, while the Palestinian police arrested the truck driver.

As a result, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced – and according to what was published by the Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein Al-Sheikh through his account on social networking sites – official mourning and the flags will fly at half-mast tomorrow, Friday, in mourning for “our workers are martyrs for a living,” and offered his condolences to their families and loved ones.

The town of Aqraba announced the comprehensive strike to mourn the souls of the deceased, while most of the people rushed – according to the ambulance officer Youssef Diria to Al Jazeera Net – to the Jericho Governmental Hospital, where the deceased were transferred in order to participate in the sympathy of their families in this tragedy.
