Sadness and anger in Egypt farewell to the girl Shorouk, the victim of the contagion

Cairo- While Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi was preparing to talk to the world’s youth at a conference in Sharm El-Sheikh last week, Shorouk went out with Nada, Doaa, Zainab, Zakaria, Muhammad, Hajar, Saeed and other children, the oldest of whom was 15 years old, from their homes in a village in Menoufia Governorate in the Delta of Egypt, to work on one of the farms in exchange for 50 pounds a day (less than $4) to help their families cope with the hardships of life.

After a long day of hard work, and on their return almost simultaneously with the entertainment “The Magician” that was presented at the Sharm El-Sheikh Forum, which was attended by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and senior officials in Egypt, the car carrying the children slipped off a ferryboat crossing a river Nile River, which resulted in their fall into the river, killing 9 people, while 14 people came out alive.

For a whole week, the mother of the 13-year-old girl, Shorouk, was sitting on the bank of the river, waiting for him to give her the body of her child, who had no other left after the bodies of the rest of the victims were recovered, until the rescue efforts succeeded yesterday, Monday, in finding Shorouk, 5 kilometers from the scene of the accident. Thousands of people from her village and neighboring villages bid her farewell in a majestic scene.

The martyr of the halal bite

Shorouk’s farewell did not stop at the people of her village, but continued on social networking sites in Egypt, amid a wide wave of sadness and anger over the “martyr of the halal bite.”

The pioneers of the communication sites interacted with Shorouk’s departure, expressing their deep sadness at her departure, and a number of them confirmed that her innocent features refuse to leave their imagination, and that her pain leave their heart.

The tweeters circulated Umm Shorouk’s description of her, “His two brothers lived and his drowning died,” coupled with previous statements by the Egyptian president, including “the pockets are filled and billions remain like a deck,” expressing their anger at the crises experienced by the poor in Egypt, which led to children of this age leaving to work in search of Few pounds.

In her statements to the “Sada Al-Balad” website, Shorouk’s mother said that she is a student in the second year of middle school and went out in order to save the expenses of private lessons, adding that Shorouk wished to complete her education and be an officer in the army as she used to watch them on TV, but she was relieved of the world and its concern.

She confirmed that she went out two months ago in order to work and save her expenses, as Shorouk asked her to go to the employer who delivers them daily, but he assured her that her child is still small, but knowing that she wants to complete her education, he agreed to work with him two months ago .

According to the Egyptian (governmental) newspaper Al-Ahram, the cause of the accident was due to the driver’s failure to control the brakes at the moment it climbed over the ferry that crosses the Nile, which led to the car falling from the other side, submerged in the waters of the Nile.

It turned out that the car was carrying 23 children, between boys and girls, no more than 15 years old, working on a poultry farm, and that upon their return from work, the car skidded from the top of a ferryboat belonging to the Qanater facility in the Nile River, causing it to fall with its passengers in the river.

And the Public Prosecution said – in a statement published on its Facebook page last Saturday – that the driver who caused the Qanater facility accident, which left two dead on the spot, with 8 missing as a result of getting into an “unlicensed ferryboat” in the Nile, was arrested, and the police arrested 3 Workers at the offending facility.
