During his visit to Doha, the President of the Turkish Parliament signs a memorandum of cooperation with the Qatari Shura Council

Turkish Parliament Speaker Mustafa Shantop said that he and Qatar’s Shura Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim signed an agreement with the aim of strengthening parliamentary relations between the two countries.

In turn, the Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council said in a tweet on Twitter that the memorandum of understanding aims to strengthen relations, coordinate positions in parliamentary forums, exchange experiences between the two sides, and deepen coordination on joint initiatives.

Shantoub confirmed – during a press conference at the headquarters of the Turkish Embassy in Doha – thatHe was keen to be the first speaker of parliament to visit Qatar after the election of the first Shura Council in the country’s history, to bless the Qatari people for this distinguished step.

In a related context, Shantob said that the security of the Gulf is one of Turkey’s security, and that Ankara wants Qatar and the Gulf region to live in stability and peace.

He stressed that Turkey sees the great steps that Qatar is making in order to prepare to host the 2022 World Cup, pointing out that his country will support Qatar with all it has in order to secure the World Cup whenever it needs it.

Earlier today, Wednesday, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, received at the Amiri Diwan the Speaker of the Turkish House of Representatives.

During the meeting, they reviewed the strategic relations of friendship and cooperation between Qatar and Turkey and aspects of their development in various fields.

The Turkish parliament speaker is conducting an official one-day visit to Doha, the first of its kind, after the Qatari Shura Council elections in October 2021.
