IT security for industrial networking: Belden Group buys Macmon Secure
The Belden Group acquires Macmon Secure, a provider of network access control products (Network Access Control and Zero Trust Network Access / ZTNA) based in Berlin. Macmon will at Belden incorporated into the Industrial Network Solutions (INS) division with headquarters in the Stuttgart region. Belong to her already Hirschmann, ProSoft Technology (not to be confused with the VAD ProSoft), OTN Systems and Lumberg Automation.
The company, which was founded in 1902 and has its roots in cable technology, is particularly well positioned to serve customers who want to increase networking and automation in manufacturing, facility management and telecommunications. With Macmon, there is now also the protection of networked installations that can be controlled remotely and from different devices. However, two very different partner worlds are colliding with the takeover.
Christian Bücker, previously Managing Director of Macmon, will continue to be responsible for the development of the area as Business Director at Belden and will lead the team of around 70 employees. “We have grown dynamically and organically over the past few years. Companies of all sizes and in all sectors benefit from our NAC solution Macmon. This year we were able to take an important strategic step with Macmon SDP (Secure Defined Perimeter) and are now also securing company resources in the cloud,” reports Bücker. He also points to 1,500 customer installations and a customer satisfaction rate of 95 percent.
Bücker continues: “When it comes to internationalization, however, we have repeatedly reached the limits of our capacity. For us, as a member of a global technology group, it is a great opportunity to market our solutions for secure network management worldwide and to be able to further advance our innovations.”
With the Belden division specializing in industrial networks Hirschmann Macmon is already working on a large joint project for an American company. “Cybersecurity incidents in industrial control systems stem from multiple vectors, such as system vulnerabilities, gaps in network architecture, lack of network segmentation, and insecure hardware and software configurations,” says Buecker. “Here we can offer a strong combination – our network security portfolio including network management coupled with Hirschmann’s Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) expertise. And of course we have known Hirschmann switches very well from daily practice for years.”
