The Iraqi Minister of Youth and Sports “Adnan Darjal” faced harsh criticism on social media platforms, after the ministry chose his birthday as a national youth day in the country, as Iraqis considered the choice to be remarkable and strange.
The criticism came despite the Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports issuing a clarification on its Facebook page, in which it indicated that what was reported by some sites and pages on communication platforms was “incorrect” information about the reasons for choosing the day designated to celebrate the National Youth Day.
The ministry said in a statement, “The choice of the day came as a complement to several activities that will start on January 22 (current) with the establishment of a scientific exhibition of scientific innovations, and it will last for 3 days, and then, on the 25th of the same month, there will be an artistic cultural event that will include plastic exhibitions and events. The outputs of the two programs will be honoring creative youth on the following day, on the 26th, in a central celebration under the auspices of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi.
