“He has to leave as soon as possible.” Barcelona expels Ousmane Dembele

Osman Dembele’s hours with Barcelona became numbered, following a direct statement from the Catalan club’s management, in which it demanded the player’s departure as soon as possible after failing to reach an agreement to renew the contract linking him to the team.

Barcelona sporting director Matteo Alemani said Thursday that the French striker is required to leave Barcelona “as soon as possible.”

He added, in statements carried by the newspaper “Sport” (SPORTSpanish ) “We started negotiations with Othman’s agents 5 months ago, during this period there was continuous communication, as the club’s position was to stick to the player and work to keep him with us.”

He added, “We have been presented with different offers, and we have done enough for the player to think about what he should do with his future. We are 11 days away from closing the winter transfer market. After all these negotiations, the player has decided not to continue and what we want is players who are committed to Barcelona. For his sake and for the sake of the club, he must leave as soon as possible.”

Alemani expressed his support for the decision of coach Xavi Hernandez, who excluded Dembele from the list of the team concerned with participating in today’s match against Athletic Bilbao in the King’s Cup. It is clear not to continue.

Dembele joined Barcelona in 2017, from Borussia Dortmund, for 105 million euros, and his current contract with the Catalan club expires at the end of June.

The 24-year-old France striker was plagued with injuries during his time at the Camp Nou, and scored 31 goals in 129 matches in all competitions.
