In 2021, 47 percent more transactions were made by IT service providers than in 2020. According to ISG There were 190 mergers and acquisitions in the IT services industries last year – an unprecedented number. Year-on-year, the value of these transactions increased by 63 percent in 2021.
And these were the most important drivers that led to this record year:

a great deal of disposable capital saved up during the pandemic

The IT service providers Accenture, Deloitte, IBM, Atos and Tech Mahindra were the most active in 2021 from a global perspective, targeting other IT service providers in particular. In this market segment, the focus is primarily on cloud engineering, cyber security and data analysis – skills that are in particularly high demand due to the current digital transformation of user companies.
Not to mention the role of venture capital companies in mergers and acquisitions in the technology and IT industries. In 2021, such private equity firms were involved in seven deals each valued at over $1 billion. For example, KKR acquired Ensono, I Squared Capital acquired KIO Networks – Mexico’s largest data center operator, and just before the end of 2021, Advent International bought digital engineering company Encora.
But there was also a lot of movement in the system house and IT service provider scene on the German market in 2021. And these were the most important takeovers and mergers in this country:
