Iran calls for an end to the war in Yemen and announces its support for a political solution

Iran called on the United Nations to work to stop the war in Yemen, and announced its support for a political settlement that would stop the conflict that has been going on in this country for more than 7 years.

Today, Friday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said – in a statement – that Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian confirmed – in a phone call with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres – Tehran’s support for a political solution to end the war in Yemen and lift what he described as the siege.

Abdullahian called on the United Nations to play a greater role to stop the war in Yemen and launch political dialogue.

The Iranian minister’s statements come days after the Houthi attacks on Abu Dhabi, and the return of the UN envoys Hans Grundberg and the American Timothy Lenderking to the Gulf region; In an effort to revive the political process in Yemen.

Iranian message

Ali Asghar Haji, senior advisor to the Iranian Foreign Minister, sent a message to the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, calling on the international organization to work urgently to stop the coalition’s military operations in Yemen.

Asghar Hajji said that Tehran demands immediate measures to stop targeting cities, non-military places and infrastructure in Yemen.

He added that what he called the siege imposed on Yemen and the military operations have proven for seven years their failure to solve the Yemeni crisis.

The Iranian official expressed Tehran’s readiness to continue cooperation with the United Nations in the path of a solution in Yemen by lifting what he described as the siege, stopping military action, and respecting the sovereignty and independence of this country.
