Apple increased its market share to 23 percent from 16 percent a year earlier, the analysis firm said Counterpoint Research reported on Wednesday. Chinese rival Vivo, which led in previous quarters, finished second with 19 percent. According to Counterpoint Research calculations, it was the first time since late 2015 that Apple has taken the top position in China.
Apple is traditionally particularly strong in the smartphone market in the Christmas quarter with fresh iPhone models and then regularly relegates the global market leader Samsung to second place.
In China, Apple is the only foreign supplier that can keep up with domestic competition at the top. Looking at 2021 as a whole, Counterpoint sees the iPhone in third place in the market with a share of 16 percent. According to the calculations, Vivo was in the top position with 22 percent, followed by Oppo and Oneplus with 21 percent. Xiaomi was hot on Apple’s heels at 15 percent. (dpa/rs)
